CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – Natrona County and Kelly Walsh hosted Green River and Rock Springs for a pair of doubleheaders in the Oil City this weekend.
In Friday’s conference contests, Kelly Walsh won via a walk-off 8-7 over Green River, and Natrona County fell 17-7 to Rock Springs.
The two Casper schools swapped opponents for Saturday’s games. Natrona County was looking for its first conference win of the season against Green River.
A big bottom of the sixth inning for the Fillies staked them with an 8-1 lead heading into the top of the seventh. The deficit woke up the Wolves’ bats as they were able to drive five runs across home plate including a home run off the bat of Haidyn Terry, a freshman for Green River.
Despite the late surge, Natrona County was able to get the final three outs before Green River could complete the comeback. The Fillies picked up their first conference victory of the year by a final score of 8-6.
Kelly Walsh took on Rock Springs, and they found themselves down 3-2 in the bottom of the third.
Brooke Lijewski led off the inning with a double, and that wasn’t her only at-bat of the inning. The Trojans would plate eight runs in the bottom of the third, and Lijewski added an RBI single to her tally before the half-inning was over.
Lijewski’s squad would ultimately win 16-3 in five innings.
The next time both Kelly Walsh and Natrona County will play will be against each other on April 7.
